Jumeirah Beach Park

Jumeirah Beach Park is one of the most popular beaches in Dubai which is awarded the Blue Flag certification for adhering to strict international standards. The beach park is an ideal picnic spot for families offering desert garden, children’s playground, cafes, barbecue areas, round-the-clock lifeguard service and sports facilities. The park also has a soft, stretch of golden sand, palm trees and grassy areas, making it one of the most desirable beaches in Dubai. Note: The beach section of the Jumeirah Beach Park is closed for renovation due to the Dubai Canal project. The park will reopen fully revamped by the end of 2016.

Umm Suqeim Beach

Umm Suqeim Beach is an attractive sandy expanse known for its stunning views of the Burj Al Arab. It is a very popular destination with kitesurfers.

This beach provides shelters, changing huts and shower facilities and is very popular with Jumeirah residents and Western expatriates. It is a free public beach open 24 hours a day. Since there are no cafés or restaurants on the beach, it is recommended you bring your own snacks and drinks. During the weekdays, the park is only open to women and children. The beach gets crowded during the weekends, so it is best visited early in the morning.

Umm Suqeim Beach is 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the downtown area and easily accessible by car or public transport. The nearest metro station is First Gulf Bank on the Red Line.

Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

With endless construction works, shopping malls and skyscrapers, no one could have imagined that Dubai has dedicated its biggest piece of land to the UAE’s first national park.

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve is a systematically planned rehabilitation area restored to save Dubai’s severely damaged beautiful desert habitat. At an hour’s drive from Dubai, the DDCR encompasses 250 square kilometers of shifting dunes, sprinkled with fire bush, stunted acacia and endemic ghaf trees, and serves as a sanctuary for threatened local mammal and reptile species such as the Arabian mountain gazelle, sand gazelle, Arabian red fox, oryx and sand fox.

It is possible to visit the reserve only through tour operators who arrange for 4X4 and camel-back tours of the area. For those who are ready to splurge on a luxury hotel stay, the fancy Al Maha Resort lies deep within the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.
